hi, I’m poppy.
I’m so happy that you decided to check out this little website. I do have so much to share about how you can improve your life, even when having to start over from zero but first let me share mine.
I grew up in a typical working class family in Bangkok, Thailand but somehow, I always understood that the world was my oyster and that one day I would spread my wings and fly away living in another country.
A year in the USA
One sunny day in Chiangmai, I was having lunch with a group of friends (street food vendor ofcourse!) when we came across a newspaper ads for a Foreign Exchange Student programme to the USA. The 7 of us were interested in the programme, we talked about it excitedly during our meal, saying how life changing the experience could be but only one person actually applied… it was me. I got accepted and that’s when I started to realise the power of “doing”.
Finally I decided to make a career change to accounting, with no British accounting qualification, no previous work experience in accounting – I started my life over again at the age of 30!
Starting over in the UK
In 2016, I moved to the UK to marry my university boyfriend (who would have thought!). I already had a great career in Thailand as a software consultant for hypermarket retailers across Asia. However, one of the main reasons I excelled at the job, was because of my English fluency which is clearly not going to make me stand out moving to an English speaking country!

It was difficult at the start. Everyone I worked with at my level were younger than me and well ahead of me in their ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) journey. Although I moved to a place many dream of living, I felt behind in life, felt I was failing. But I persevered, I kept working on my qualification, gaining new skills, knowledge and constantly on the look out for better job opportunities – all this while settling in new country, learning the culture and making new friends. Within short 4 years, I am now fully qualified, obtained senior role in finance, increased my salary by three-fold and a home-owner.
